FOREVER YOUNG MINISTRY
The Forever Young Ministry (FYM) plans and implements social, spiritual, and service activities to foster fellowship and spiritual growth among single and married parishioners aged 55 and over.
Co-Chairs of the FYM group are:
Barbara Roy – [email protected]
Teresa Maness – [email protected]
Below are the sub-committees and their co-chairs with contact information and a short statement on their goals/activities:
Garden:
Diane Irizzary – [email protected]
Christine Williams – [email protected]
If you love to be outside and work in a garden, this committee is for you! They hold periodic garden workdays to weed and mulch around the church, the social hall and the lower parking area. Their goal is to establish the basic permanent structure to the gardens and add seasonal color to beautify our grounds.
Homebound:
Mike Memrick – [email protected]
Our church family has about 25 Homebound people that are visited every week by this committee. The current group of 8 wonderful volunteers bring the Eucharist to those in the parish unable to attend Mass and also spend time visiting with these folks.
Faith:
Mary Hilchey- [email protected]
This committee is planning on starting a weekly prayer group called “Challenge”, which is based on “The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius”. A reflection exercise contains four parts scripture, a life story and application ending with a concluding thought. Weekly group attendance includes prayer, support and sharing as well as coffee and donuts.
Service:
Leona and Vincent Krauth – [email protected] ; [email protected]
Based on the input received from our retirees and seniors, there are a lot of needs in our church community! The goal of this group is to prioritize those needs and match them with those people who can provide assistance. The needs range from providing transportation to church or Doctor’s visits, to helping with home repair or errands/chores, or providing technical assistance for phones or computers. Another important need is socialization, for those who live alone, having someone to check on them and visit with them is critical to their health. We need volunteers who love to help, have some time to provide transportation or assist in other ways so we can provide our seniors with the help they really need.
Social:
Mike and Sue Peters – [email protected]; [email protected]
This committee has taken all of the feedback we received and divided that into activities that may be of interest to all of the parishioners. The activities that can be done in the Social Hall are: Bingo, Book Club, Cards and Games, Knitting, Crocheting and Crafts, Low Impact exercises. Those that can be done outside of St. Matthew are: Lunch outings, Movies, and Walking Groups. They are looking for some volunteers who are interested in leading one of these sub-groups.
